The word 'homework' sparks extremely contrasting feelings among the students and their parents. While most students would love to get rid of their homework to have ample time for their naughty acts, parents would prefer their kids to take a deep dip inside their books even after a heavy day at school. Who is correct? The answer is 'both' and 'none'!
There are some questions which do not have a simple black or a white answer. They lie in the grey area and the question of putting ban on the homework is certainly one of them. Let us first discuss the arguments from the side of the students. Childhood, undoubtedly, is the most cherished period of life. The childish acts you knowingly or unknowingly end up doing as a child stay with you till the time immemorial. There would be hardly anyone who has a fond memory of doing homework as a child! If we all agree to this, then why do we burden our flower like children with the heavy weight and pressure of homework? Well, talk to their parents and you would get the answer!
In today's society, the status symbols have been replaced from a bungalow and car to kids' marks! With such a competitive atmosphere, no parent would want his/her child to lose out on the 'top spot' just because the kid didn't pay attention to the homework. Gone are the days when men used to go out to earn and women used to stay back to take care of the child. These days, an increasing number of women are working. This leaves the couple worrying about the child's activities after the school. In such a scenario, they would love to see their kid spend most of his/her time doing the homework.
While both parties have some worthy points, consensus needs to be reached with some amendments. Most of us underestimate the significance of homework and think of it just as a revision to the lessons taught at the school. However, homework's significance is far reaching. The first lessons of 'professionalism' are taught by the way of homework only. A kid understands the significance of heavy words such as punctuality, integrity and hard work when given a challenging task in the form of the homework. On the part of the parents, they must ensure that the homework turns out to be an enjoyable experience for their kid rather than a jail!
