Today, when technology has become omnipresent, what are the new teaching methods that schools must adopt to match the learning needs of their students? The answer to this question was elaborately discussed by Mr. Ashok Ganguly, former Chairman, Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) and Mrs. Rita Wilson, former Secretary, Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) at a seminar on 'Redesigning English Language Learning in the 21st Century', hosted by EnglishEdge. The one-day seminar was attended by over 40 leading schools from the Delhi-NCR region.
Advocating the significance of technology-aided learning, Mr. Ganguly remarked, "Technology will pre-dominate the teaching-learning process. It will not be technology by itself but the use of technology to change the teaching style that will be important." He further advised schools to move beyond the frontiers of explicit curriculum, institutional learning & examination specifications and adopt more flexible and progressive teaching styles.
Further on in the day, Mrs. Wilson spoke about the role of the English language in granting a global citizenship to a person. "The Traditional method of teaching English emphasizes only on grammar, memorizing words and translations etc. It does not foster effective speaking skills. To speak English fluently, one needs specially designed courses, coupled with effective methodology that not only teaches you to speak correctly but also focuses on improving your diction and accent. If you want to shape your students into global citizens, then EnglishEdge is the answer" she said.
