Keeping in view the past few unfortunate accidents of the contaminated food during the mid-day meal, the Delhi government has decided to bring in a new NGO Akshaya Patra, which now will provide the free and nutritious food to at least 40,000 students.
Education Minister, Manish Sisodia admitted in the Delhi assembly that lately, there have been multiple incidents regarding the quality of food served in mid-day meals to the students.
He also said that the new NGO will began providing the food to the students in some places very soon. Regarding the quality of the food in Mid-Day meal, the legislatures pointed that during multiple times there have been reports of finding the rats. lizards and insects in the mid-day meal.
BJP legislator from Rajouri Garden, Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that "Even those contractors who serve contaminated food are not properly investigated".
Elaborating the plan regarding the new NGO, Sisodia said that Akshaya Patra has no kitchen in the national capital. “They provide professional services in other states,” he said and added that these are his own observations from the visits to various schools which are catered by the NGO.
“In a proposal sent to the previous L-G, they said they will set up a kitchen and provide meals with nutritious value,” he said.
