Like every Independence day, this year also the whole nation
is celebrating 'the day of freedom' with great enthusiasm and among all it is
the children who are performing number of dances, arts and acts representing
the various cultural faces of the country. But, somewhere a small child is not
celebrating because he is suffering from a disease. He does not necessarily
have to be from rural area; he can very well be from urban area as well and
there can be many reasons for this such as:
- Missing important health records
- Errors from community health workers
- Parents not understanding the need of vaccination
- Data collection methods are very cumbersome and outdated. Too much manual effort is required.
Due to all these reasons it becomes difficult to keep the
record of a child health when he is most sensitive and needs the most care.
So, at Yale University several entrepreneurs of Indian
origin come with an idea of combining modern day's mobile technology with cloud
computing and wearable technology and gave birth to a small necklace "Khushi Baby" capable of keeping the
child's health record.
These necklaces are tiny but so high-tech that the entire
medical history of a child can be recorded. The necklace has the ability to
address the traditional problems (mentioned above) related to child's health
accurately.
Thanks to technology, now health/workers and nurses can
exactly know how far the child is in his immunization cycle. Not only this, but
the officials can use it to:
"·Stock Management
"·Health worker Mobilization
"·Scheduling and Cancelling the Appointments
In India it is very common for a infant baby to wear a small
necklace with black thread in order to have protection from diseases and this
even makes the high-tech necklace even more of a cultural fit in India.
The necklace merely costs $25 and tablet $150 and a health
worker with a single tablet can easily reach several hundred children.
There is a fund raising campaign going on their site kushibaby. You can donate $25 for the
necklace or $150 for the tablet.
This Independence day you can gift a child its independence
from diseases and can help in raising a healthier and happy India.
