A positive outlook for every community and to lift up the third generation, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has announced that it will hire employees from the transgender community as well.
During a recent meeting, which was attended by KMRL MD Eliyas George and other senior officials this proposition of hiring the candidates from the transgender community was put up and accepted. This is the first time a major firm has put forward this kind of initiative to lift up the transgender community. KMRL has also issued a set of guidelines that will be followed by the computer in hiring these candidates as it might be possible that some of them may a criminal offense registered against them. Therefore, a set of guidelines is needed to be followed to check the eligibility of the candidate. According to the record, 176 Transgenders are registered in the state officially, but the number is expected to be quite high as some might not reveal the identity due to various factors. "Shooed away from everywhere this will give us some respectability. Hope many such firms will come up to end our isolation and discrimination," said Shyama, a transgender person.
Spokesman of the KMRL said,"As part of the ongoing project we have initiated a livelihood improvement programme roping in marginalized sections of the society. We will take Transgenders on board."
Because of the continuous oppression by the society, this initiative will definitely build up confidence in this community and will bring about a change in society's outlook as well.
