NITI Aayog would be ranking states on their education
performance. The move comes to improve education and cost-effective outcomes
and boost innovations.Central
Government has decided to establish a ranking level. The first rankings are
expected to be released in June’2017.
To conduct and access the state education quality, NITI
Aayog and the Ministry of HRD have jointly developed School Education Quality
Index (SEQI).
SEQI is based on 34 indicators, some of them are
- Learning Outcomes
- Access Outcomes
- Equity Outcomes
- Governance Process &
- Structural
Reforms undertaken by the states.
SEQI Index would be calculated annually on these 5 broad parameters.
In a letter written to the health ministry by the NITI
Aayog, the Aayog said that “the goal is not to compare the level of index of
each state rather the improvement in level of index over last year”. This will
help state to improve on the effective outcomes.
The National Council
for Education and Research & Training (NCERT) would conduct an annual
survey.
The base year for calculating the first SEQI Index has been
taken as 2014-15. The first rankings should be out by June’2017.
