On Tuesday, students of law colleges affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) alleged that university failed to keep its word on the reducing the pass percentage.
Earlier, the university had announced that the aggregate pass percentage of all the subjects would be 40 percent instead of 50 percent for the law courses but the results of the first semester were declared according to the old criteria.
Regarding the matter, the students of various law colleges wrote a letter to the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nitin Karmalkar in which they seek his intervention to ensure that the new rules are applied from this academic year and all results should be revised.
Abhishek Raskar, a final year student, said "the students were elated when they came to know in December that the aggregate passing percentage has been changed to 40. However, when the old rule was applied and results were declared, we were shocked. For several years, students have been asking for reforms and this revised passing criterion was a result of it. Our university has one of the lowest numbers of students passing law exams. That's why these reforms need to be implemented immediately.”
The students also asked the university to publish an official ordinance which states the new passing criterion for the law exams.
