Vijay Goel, Sports minister today
said that if sports is to be given its due importance, it should be made a compulsory
subject in schools. He added that marks should be given to the students as per
level of involvement in sports.
Mr. Goel was addressing to the 64th
meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE). He said including
sports would help in curtailing the growing incidences of diabetes and other
non-communicable diseases among children.
Effective steps should be taken
to ensure that the full potential of sports is realized. He also emphasized that
all the schools should have a proper sports set up and playing field. And those
institutes which don’t have their own play fields should tie up with their neighboring
institutes.
Every school must have a physical
education teacher. Schools should have sports quota and relaxation should be
given to those in sports for attendance and appearing in the examination, added
the minister.
