Union HRD minister Smriti Irani's love for Hindi and Sanskrit is no secret to anyone in the country. In order to take this forward on the nationwide scale, the minister has urged the universities and institutes to come out with technology that would help in preserving the regional languages in the country.
She said that the regional languages need to find their way back into the course curriculum which is now increasingly being overpowered by the English language. It is imperative so that the ongoing generation can learn about the Indian languages.
She said that the languages which aren't endangered as yet, must be preserved and technology must be used for this purpose. She urged all the Universities across the country to contribute in this matter. As per the constitution of the country, there are 125 languages and 1600 dialects. Out of them, as many as 500 dialects can become extinct in the near future.
She was quoted saying, "If this university can work on saving the extinct languages of the country, it would be the best use of the technology."
