In what can be hailed as really noble initiative, Samsung inaugurated a 'Samsung Smart School' in the Sri Sant Vinobha Bhave Inter College in Baidpura village, near its Noida manufacturing facility. The village was adopted by Samsung as part of its 'Nanum Village' project in 2013. Since then, the company has been relentlessly working closely with the community to enhance the infrastructure, health and education facilities in the village. The Samsung Smart School was launched today as part of the same program. 62 employees from Samsung India and Korea offices volunteered to spend a week at the school as part of the Samsung Employee Volunteering Program. They helped in setting up the Smart Class and interacted with the children.
The Samsung Smart School was inaugurated by Mr. Ravinder Zutshi, Senior Vice President, Samsung India.
Expressing his joy on the occasion, Mr. Ravinder Zutshi said, "Samsung places great importance on providing children from less privileged backgrounds the opportunity to receive quality education. We are confident that the Smart School will contribute to bridging the digital divide while improving the quality of education these children receive and will be a valuable addition to our work in our Nanum Village Baidpura."
The Samsung Smart Class comprises of Samsung products such as the Samsung Smartboard, laptops and tablets which enable students to access digital content and learn in a more interactive manner. Such an engaging methodology helps the students understand and retain their mathematics; science and social science lessons better. The volunteers also engaged the children in basic health and hygiene education.
As part of its Nanum Village project, Samsung also plans to construct a medical centre and a community hall for Baidpura residents at the Sri Sant Vinobha Bhave Inter College. The community hall will have computers, a library and a recreation centre. Numerous health and community development initiatives have also been undertaken by Samsung in this village.
Over the years not only has Samsung emerged as a technological giant but has also consistently engaged with philanthropic activities to uplift the communities and enable them to lead better lives. Since mid-2013, over 140 Smart Schools have been set up by Samsung in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country. These digitally equipped classrooms have impacted over 60,000 students and teachers. Teachers opine that Smart Classes in their schools have led to enhanced attendance and enthusiasm from students, courtesy the engaging learning environment. The company has already signed MOUs with the MSM
(Micro, Small and Medium) Enterprises Ministry in West Bengal and New Delhi, to launch Technical Schools that would assist the youth with skill development programs.
