After the recent release of the UNESCO report regarding the literacy rate in India the Indian officials have been coming up with the various ways to tackle the issues related to the education in India.
Yesterday, on the occasion of International Literacy Day, President Pranab Mukherjee in his speech said that Saakshar Bharat and Swachh Bharat are two sides of the same coin and there cannot be one without the other.
Highlights of the speech
At the event, the President also gave away Saakshar Bharat Awards - 2016, for contributions to the "literacy movement"
Moreover, after looking at the current situation, which shows a large number of people are still illiterate in the country, the President called for a "joint action" involving government, NGOs, local bodies, volunteers etc to achieve 100 per cent literacy in the country
"Swachh Bharat, Saakshar Bharat are the two sides of the same coin. I cannot have Swachh Bharat (Clean India) without Saakshar Bharat (Literate India)," the President added
Not only literacy, there are certain other things like cleanliness, environmental consciousness, responsibility to the neighbours, society values, and other factors which are closely related and need to be focused upon
He also mentioned that the passing of the Right to Education Act was a "crucial" step
Meanwhile, Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar, also spoke on the occasion and said financial legal and electoral literacy are also of key importance.
