On February 26th, Rajya Sabha was informed that registration
for various competitive examination held by Union Public Service Commission
(UPSC) has been made 100 per cent online. This is to ensure transparency.
Minister of State for Personnel and Public Grievances
Jitendra Singh said during Question Hour that efforts are being made to take
online registration for Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to 100 per cent from
the present 95 per cent. He said that a number of reforms are being initiated
by the government regarding online registrations for competitive
examinations.
He further added that there has not been a single complaint
regarding online registration; despite this Deputy Commissioners have been
directed to take adequate measures in case of complaints from candidates to
check any difficulty faced by candidates registering for SSC exams.
Singh said that online registration has been introduced to
simplify the procedure and to bring in transparency in the process.
This online registration procedure was questioned by
Bhupinder Singh (BJD) earlier as when the internet system did not work properly
in cities like Delhi, how it would function in remote areas. He even asked
government to solve problems of candidates living in far areas.
However, the government has taken steps to implement the
system and now there is no backing out.
