Times Higher Education Rankings are the world's largest invitation and only survey of academicians. The survey is carried in 15 languages to over 10,500 academicians and 142 countries. The Times Higher Education Rankings were released On Thursday.
And even with the remarkable intellectual history the county possesses, not a single Indian university has been regarded by academicians as being among the world's most prestigious.
The top talents in the country must be held on for the country's development and to prevent brain drain highly skilled leaders must be developed and investment must be attracted. India should support its leading institutions as even the best performing institutes like the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) - they have a powerful reputation across the world have not received adequate nominations make it to the Top 100 in the rankings.
Phil Baty, editor of Times Higher Education Rankings told that the countries of Brazil, Russia and China - the other great BRIC nations, have managed at least one top 100 university in this list".
He also added that it is possible that most academicians are not aware of the Indian Institutes as the survey based on UN data is representative at a local and global level.
Another reason can be that the Indian Institutions fail to attract the international students and staff. Collaboration with overseas universities and publishing some research papers in the global language-English also supports, but the Indian institutions fail to do that.
These factors influence the reputation of the university and hence by improving the international outlook the Indian Institutions can develop to share best practice on a global level and attract students from all over the world.
This advances their name in the global academic community.
However the only way to improve the rankings in world reputation rankings is by ensure that the scholars across the world recognise the Indian Institutes as an excellent teaching and research institution.
