NIIT University, a leading centre of innovation and learning in emerging areas of the Knowledge Society, invites application for two years M. Tech Programme in Geographic Information System (GIS). The technology based and research driven GIS programme is offered with support from Esri Inc. California, the world leader in GIS, and Esri India.
The GIS (Geographic Information Systems) industry, hitherto a niche segment, is all set to explode, creating huge opportunities for both - companies providing GIS solutions, and youth and working professionals aspiring to build careers in this emerging, exciting and upcoming industry.
The demand for geospatial experts is expected to become wider, owing to the roll out of Government of India's National GIS initiative, a state-of-the-art information system, which promises to transform governance, aid planning and make life easier for the common man.
Eligibility
The applicant should have secured ≥ 50% in class X / Class XII Board examination/ in relevant Bachelor's and Master's degree as mentioned below:
Master's Degree holders in Remote Sensing, Geomatics, Geoinformatics, Environmental Sciences, GI Sciences, Physical Sciences, Geology, Ecology, Geography, Anthropology, Archaeology, Economic Geography or related areas and those who are completing their Degree in the current academic year.
Bachelor's Degree holders in Engineering/Technology/ Architecture and those who are completing their Degree in the current academic year.
Professionals with 3 year- Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience in any of the above mentioned areas.
Selection Process
Candidates are required to fill an application form and also need to go through additional tests, presentations or viva that are part of the admission process. The interview parameters will include English - communication skill both written and oral, GIS awareness, computing experience and overall personality.
Merit List
The Merit List of applicants is worked out based on composite criteria of assessment of background which includes academic and interview performance of the candidates, application material and marks obtained in GATE/GRE/NU Aptitude Test.
Scholarships
Scholarships, covering full and partial portion of university fees, are available for meritorious students, on a first cum first served basis. Scholarship will offered on academic credentials and performance in GRE/GATE/NU Aptitude Test and interview process.
How to Apply
Step 1: Applicants are required to submit the duly completed Admission Application form in any of the following ways:
Online at the NU website: www.niituniversity.in. Attach a scanned copy of the class X mark sheet and recommendation letter.
Printed copy of the form by post to NU Central Admissions Office at NIIT House, 85, Sector 32, Institutional Area, Gurgaon - 122001.
Scanned copy to be emailed to [email protected] along with the class X, XII, Graduation mark sheet.
Printed copy of the form to be submitted in person to a duly authorized representative, details of which are available on the NU website.
5. All required documents should be submitted along with the application. If forms are submitted online, a scanned copy of all the required documents should also be attached.
Step 2: After receiving the application forms NU will acknowledge the same and send intimation about the schedule for the admission process to each eligible candidate within 48 Hours.
Step 3: The eligible applicants will be notified by the admission office about interview dates and location. The eligible candidates will have to go through additional tests, presentations or viva that are part of the admission process.
Step 4: An Admission offer will be made to the selected applicants within 5 working days of the completion of the admission process.

Course Content
NU M.Tech GIS Programme is offered with support from ESRI Inc, California, USA , the world's leading organization in development of GIS software and ESRI India. The Programme is designed to serve professional development at the workplace and, hence, is characterized by the pedagogic innovation of Education-Work Linkage.
The 2-Year, 72-Credit Programme consists of 4 semesters. The courses are categorized into:
Core (Remote Sensing and Image Processing, GIS Programming, Advanced Programming, etc.)
Professional Electives (to gain proficiency in respective domain areas)
Internship (to build linkage with Industry-work or Industry-oriented research, seamlessness with the world of work)
The first three semesters are devoted to theoretical and hands-on laboratory training of Core and Advanced GIScience and GI Technology courses. The last semester is for industrial internship where students will be working on real-life projects leading to the completion of the programme. Thus, the M.Tech programme is the sum total of education measures undertaken to develop industry-ready GIS professionals.
