Conducted by the NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) in an independent manner, NAS (National Assessment Surveys) are India's indigenously developed 'student assessment survey systems'. These surveys are recorded throughout the country using the IRT (Item Response Theory) methodology. This survey is conducted for the classes 3rd, 5th, 8th and 10th.
Conducted once every three years, these surveys give a detailed account on the learning outcomes of the students. The results of this survey are extremely helpful for the teachers' training and development of adequate curriculum for the students.
CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) has come up with PSA (Problem Solving Assessment) specifically for the students of classes 9th and 11th which is aimed at exposing the students to the intricacies of application oriented testing.
The above mentioned information was furnished by the Union HRD Minister, Smriti Irani in the Lok Sabha.
