The Sir JJ College of Architecture was set up about 157 years ago in the heart of Mumbai. A Second government college is being planned by the department of higher and technical education.
Setting this up will ensure excellence in education. The new college will be built on the lines of JJ College.
A study will be carried out by the 2 member group to assess the feasibility for it.
The Director of the directorate of technical education (DTE), S K Mahajan with the principal of Sir JJ College of Architecture, Rajiv Mishra will be looking into the constraints of this new set up.
With the increasing requirements of architecture in the state, the construction of a new institution is being taken into consideration. There is only one Government College in the state. And two other colleges are government aided- Academy of Architecture Rachna Sansad in Mumbai and BKPS College of Architecture in Pune.On a total there are more than sixty architecture colleges in the state
Also a grading system for the colleges is being drafted as the architecture colleges are not evaluated for quality. Other states do not adopt grading system in the architecture colleges. A workshop is being organised on Thursday by the DTE to finalise the parameters for grading system. It will be attended by representatives from all architecture colleges. For the final decision the parameters will be sent to the Council of Architecture.
