The deadline for the submission of admission forms has been
extended by the University of Mumbai by five more days and now the last date
for receiving the applications is June 21. By Friday, the earlier deadline,
more than 2 lakh candidates have applied for the 43 degree courses and with
each students allowed to apply for multiple courses, the university by now has
received more than 8 lakh applications.
Since, there was a delay in declaring the results of the Higher
Secondary Certificate exams, the university decided to extend the deadline so
that candidates can complete their admission process.
In a separate move the university has also allowed diploma
holders to apply for the Bachelor of Mass Media course from this year onwards.
The University will release its first merit list on June 24. The university
received highest number of application i.e. more than 2 lakh for the commerce
course. Among other, self-financed courses form the university are also very
popular as they received more than 1 lakh applications.
“For students taking up a course, it is not
merely about placements. They seem to be taking up more trade-specific courses.
The Bachelorʼs (degree) in Financial Markets, Bachelorʼs (degree) in Finance
and Investments and BSc Biotechnology are some of the courses that have seen
more takers in the past couple of years,” said Hemlata Bagla, principal of KC
College, Churchgate.
