Schools
in Mumbai which have recorded low success rate in the 2018 board
exams will be under the scanner of the government soon. For this
purpose, State education minister Vinod Tawde has also called for the
special meeting with the teachers and principals of the schools where
less than 30 percent of the students have managed to pass the board
exams.
Tawde told The
Sunday Express: “We are trying to understand where the gaps are.
Sometimes, there arenʼt enough teachers, sometimes there isnʼt a
proper infrastructure. Once we identify these gaps, we will try to
plug them.”
He added: “We will
provide assistance to these schools to help them improve their
performance.” Additional resources will be provided to these
schools such as teachers, infrastructures and mentoring so that they
can improve their success rate from next year onward.
In Mumbai division,
there are 25 schools which have 30 percent as their pass percentage
in class X 2018 board exams. And then there are five schools in which
the pass percentage is zero percent.
Schools with poor
performance are high in number in the Aurangabad Division, where 29
schools have pass percentage below 30 percent and nine schools have
zero percent pass rate.
It is not the first
time that the government will extend support to such schools to help
them improve their success rate. Last year, the government identified
such schools in the Pune division, which were then provided with
special assistance to help them improve their results.
“We had trained
the teachers of these schools, helped them with additional study
material. It has worked, as the number of schools with below 30
percent results has dropped drastically,” said Tawde.
