After its meeting on the 13th June, 2014, the UGC (University Grants Commission) has given a green signal to 'Ishan Uday', a scholarship scheme especially designed for the students from North Eastern Region, starting from the academic year 2014-15.
The scheme would benefit 10,000 students from the North Eastern Region each year, belonging to the households with an annual income of less than 4.5 lakhs. The amount of financial help offered under the scheme would range from Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 5,000 per month. This would be open for the students of technical, general degree and professional courses.
It would also include the students belonging to the medical and para-medical courses at the under graduate level.
This information was presented in the Lok Sabha by the Union HRD Minister, Smriti Irani.
