Prakash Javadekar today released the names of six institutes, three from public and three from the private sector, which has been granted ‘Institution of Eminence’ status by the government of India. From the public sector, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore have been chosen and from the private sector Manipal Academy of Higher Education, BITS Pilani and Jio Institute have been tagged with the ‘Institution of Eminence’ status.
The information was shared by the Prakash Javadekar on social media account today and these selected institutes will get INR 1000 crores in the next five years.
Prakash Javadekar also tweeted the status bestowed upon these institutes “will help them grow rapidly to a scale and improve quality and add new courses."
In a series of tweets, Prakash Javadekar said that the new status of these institutes will help them achieve world-class status. He pointed out that even though there are more than 800 universities in the nation, none of them was able to make it to the top 100 or 200 for that matter. The title and funds will help these institutions to build a world-class reputation.
