IIT Kanpur's annual technical and entrepreneurial fest, Techkriti 2015, which had Brainbuxa.com as its official online knowledge partner, recently concluded this week. As expected, the 4 day fest had many great dignitaries on the guest list and fierce competitions among the best brains of the country.
The first day was capped off by a talk by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan. His talk saw an unprecedented crowd at the main auditorium with not just space enthusiasts, but all people including students, participants, faculty members and their families gathering to just catch a glimpse of the "Man behind the Mangalyaan Mission". Dr. Radhakrishnan enlightened the audience with the nuances involved in being at the helm of a highly prestigious institution such as ISRO, telling about his experience and challenges. He also gave some fun facts about the Rs 450-crore Mangalyaan Mission, the cheapest inter-planetary mission ever.
Some of the notable events on the second day included the 'Leadership Summit' with none other than the host of famous TV talk shows 'Seedhi Baat' and 'Teekhi Baat', Prabhu Chawla, the Editorial Director of The New Indian Express himself. The journalism legend shared his experiences and views on diverse topics. This was followed by a talk by Davide Scaramuzza, an expert on artificial intelligence at University of Zurich and then a session by Naresh Gupta, the Managing Director of Adobe India.
The other well known personalities to grace the campus were Dilip Chhabria, founder of DC Design. The pioneer who shot to fame by designing Tarzan, the 'Wonder Car' and the Aston Martin Vanquish that appeared in the James Bond Franchise "Die Another Day" shared his thoughts on the growing demand in automobile industry and the need for innovative thinking in this area.
The other star attractions included Sir Anthony Leggett, a Noble Prize winner and widely recognized as a world leader in the theory of low-temperature physics who enlightened the audience with a captivating discourse on quantum mechanics and Meera Sanyal, former CEO & Chairman of the Royal Bank of Scotland in India, who shared her valuable expertise in the banking sector and also her experiences while working with both NGOs and Aam Aadmi Party.
The fest proved to be a major crowd puller with events like Wild Soccer, Robowars, Hoverush, Multirover, Electromania, Junkyard Wars, Impulse, Cruise Control, Sky Sparks, Astro Treasure, IORC, Crime Run, Embedded and Be The Tycoon and Concatenate.
One of the biggest highlights of the third day was the interesting talk given by Dr. Peter Schultz, the co-inventor of the optical fibre. He narrated the fascinating history of the development of optical fibres and highlighted how his invention has radically changed the world of communication and made internet possible. Dr. Harald Rose, Wolf Prize Winner, gave a remarkable discourse on electron microscopy. The third day also included a number of quizzes for the participants to put their grey cells to use.
Innovation in Manufacturing Practices "“ 2015
Sponsored by Indian National Academy of Engineers (INAE), Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), the sole objective of this activity is to provide a common platform for the engineering college / University students in the country to show their innovative capabilities in the design and manufacturing practices. One has to design an effective and innovative model, and make a prototype of the same by applying innovative manufacturing practices. This year twenty seven entries were received from all over the country and only five were short listed to make their presentation in the afternoon of 20th March 2015.
Brainbuxa is proud to be associated with IIT Kanpur and hopes to continue this association in the future as well.
