GUWAHATI: Schools of the north eastern
states have been invited by IIT Guwahati for the upcoming 'Ishan Vikas' programme which will be a
two-week residential programme.
According to an IIT-Guwahati press release
on Wednesday students of class 9th and class 11th, having a Science background
are eligible to take part in the programme which will be conducted between 30th
November and 22nd December.
The release also specified that students
who are selected as well as teachers who will accompany them, will be provided
air travel, food and lodging during the period of the visit.
'Ishan Vikas' scheme is actually an
initiative started by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry. IIT
Guwahati is the institution responsible for coordinating this programme.
'Ishan Vikas' programme has been initiated
with the objective of introducing school children of the north eastern states
to the best institutions of higher education in the country so that they get
motivated to pursue subjects like science, technology, mathematics and
engineering.
This scheme gives students from different
states of the north eastern region, who are studying in classes IX and XI
(Science) an opportunity to visit esteemed higher education institutions of
India such as IITs and Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research
(IISERs). The students will get sponsored for the two-week visit to these
premier institutes.
