Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), a national education institution, has announced a short course on 'Raising Funding for Social Ventures'. The course will be held at the IIHS City Campus, Bangalore from February 14th - 16th. The course aims to address challenges that social entrepreneurs face while seeking funding, in order to grow and scale their ventures.
Course sessions will help entrepreneurs identify and scope new funding avenues and understand the nuances of impact investing criteria, specifically from an investee perspective. Learners will gain a better understanding of key elements that investors look for while investing in social enterprises. They will also learn how to tailor business plans and adopt strategies that appeal to such investors, while still retaining the essence of the business.
Course sessions will focus on funding sources, investment parameters, fundamentals of venture finance, legal aspects of starting and running social enterprises, and employing effective tools to qualify for funding. Learners will also have an opportunity to interact with industry experts such as impact investors from Unitus and Aavishkar, as part of panels that will supplement theory and practical sessions. In addition, social entrepreneurs will share hands-on experiences with regard to seeking funding.
The lead facult for the programme is Dr. Radhika Meenakshi Shankar, an experienced management consultant and trainer with more than two decades of academic and practice experience in entrepreneurship and finance. Dr. Shankar has successfully conducted more than 35 training programmes for potential and established entrepreneurs.
