A technical committee had been formed of the representatives from the IITs and NITs by the HRD Ministry last year.
And the affidavit confirmed that through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority the common counselling will be held for the IITs and NITs from academic session 2015-16.
However, the controversy for the common counselling for IITs and NITs continues. The IIT counsel has acquainted the Delhi High Court that the common counselling for the institutions cannot be done for this academic session.
In the submitted affidavit by the IIT counsel, although the software for common counselling that is being developed by the National Informatics Centre will be ready by the end of March; it will not be fit for use as it cannot be tested thoroughly. The admissions for these institutions are to be held in the June/July.
The petitioner Rajiv Kumar and senior advocate Prashant Bhushan opposing the IIT affidavit said that the IITs are not in the favour of the common counselling as they don't want to expose the fact that many students prefer NITs than IITs.
It is embarrassing for the IITs if they six to eight months are required just for testing the software. The implementation for the common counselling from this year itself will be insisted by the petitioners. Also IIT Bombay director has been requested to be summoned
The Joint Entrance Exam (advanced) is to be held by IIT-Bombay this year.
Instead, IITs have suggested "synchronized admission counselling" for IITs and NITs, which will be done separately by IITs and NITs. IIT-Bombay will be organizing Joint Entrance Examination (advanced) this year.
The petition has been appealed for five IITs- Bombay, Kharagpur, Delhi, Kanpur and Madras.
The HC has put off the issue for March 25 responding the IITs and HRD decision to discuss the details on March 24.
IITs and HRD told HC that it will discuss modalities on March 24. The HC posted the matter for March 25.
Pranav Sachdeva, said that "It is contempt of court" regarding the implementation of the system from the academic session 2015-16.
