From July 1, more than 100 million students will require Aadhaar card, 12-digit unique identification number, for their mid-day meal.
In the regard, the central government offered a gazette notification dated on 28 February. Though the directions came into immediate effect from the date of notification, the government has given children and their parents time till June 30.From July 1, more than 100 million students will require Aadhaar card, 12-digit unique identification number, for their mid-day meal.
“Individuals desirous of availing the benefits under the (mid-day-meal) Scheme offered at the Schools are required to furnish proof of possession of Aadhaar number or undergo Aadhaar authentication,” reads the gazette notification, which is public now.
“And individual desirous of availing the benefit under the Scheme offered at the Schools, who does not possess an Aadhaar number or has not yet enrolled for Aadhaar shall have to apply for Aadhaar enrolment by 30th June, 2017,” said the notification.
Between March and June 30 the children who don't have the Adhaar card can avail the benefit as follows:
- he/she has the enrollment ID slip of the Aadhar Card
- has the copy of the request made for the Aadhaar card
- Provide an undertaking by the parents that he/she is not availing the benefits from other schools.
“Provided further that the above documents shall be checked by an officer specially designated by the Department in the State Government or Union territory administration for that purpose,” the gazette notification said.
At least, for now the notification exempts Assam, Meghalaya and J&K from the above mentioned requirements.
