For the purpose of bringing transparency in education, Uttar Pradesh district Chandauli has launched a new attendance scheme named as "attendance with selfie." This scheme was launched in the February in order to know whether the teachers are present in the school or not. This drive motivate the teachers to take selfie with the students once they reach their respective classes.
Teachers were told to take selfie with the students along with the newspaper of that specific date and they were further instructed to share it on the whatsapp group called 'attendence with selfie.'
District Magistrate Kumar Prashant said "Attendance with a selfie has resulted in tremendous improvement in attendance at primary and junior schools across Naugarh block."
How it all started?
People in the village were not happy with the teachers in the government schools and they informed the district magistrate about the same. Upon listening to the complaints of the people, Prashant invited social activist Navin Krishna Rai in order to conduct a survey.
"Many teachers were causal about attending schools in remote areas. Some teachers posted in far-flung parts did not bother to take classes. The survey brought forth the stark reality of teachers' attendance," Rai said.
As a result, Rai came to conclusion about pushing the use of technology for better governance. After the drive there has been a lot of improvement in the attendance of the teachers.
