Setting up of National Testing Agency (NTA) has been approved by the Union Cabinet and once functional, the agency will responsible for conducting entrance examinations in the country and will relieve the bodies like CBSE and AICTE of their exam conducting duties.
For starters, the agency will begin by taking over the exams conducted by the CBSE and in due time will cove other examinations as well.
The advantage of NTA will be that students will have access to one standardized test and this will eliminate the problems of different difficulty levels in the same exam in different sittings.
Below are the few points you need to know about the NAT
- NTA will be responsible for conducting entrance tests for the higher education institutes.
- For the first year, government allocated a fund of INR 25 crores for NTA to start its operation and it is expected that from second year the agency will become self-sustainable.
- Some of the main exams NTA will conduct are: JEE Main, NEET UG, UGC NET, CTET, etc.Some of the main exams NTA will conduct are: JEE Main, NEET UG, UGC NET, CTET, etc.
- All the exams by NTA will be conducted online and they are likely to be held twice a year. Conducting exams twice a year will bring relief to the candidates of JEE and NEET exams as these exams are conducted immediately after the board exams.
- NTA will carry its functions as an autonomous body and the head of the agency would be an eminent educationist whom HRD ministry will appoint.
- NTA will be created under the Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860
- NTA will ensure that the exams have a standardized difficulty level
