A co-educational venture comprising 17 schools across India owned by India's largest pre-school chain, EuroKids -- is hosting a three-day children theatre festival called 'Footlights' 11-13 January 2013 at the Kalidas Auditorium in Mulund (West) in Mumbai. The Festival was inaugurated by Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor.
'Footlights - The Children's Theatre Festival' is an innovative platform for anyone who's interested in culture and any form of performing or visual arts. It will feature three highly-acclaimed plays for children -- Jungle Book on 11th January, 'Suar Chala Space Ko' on 12th January and In the Cat House on 13th January.
The plays are curated and performed by a group called 'Theatre Professionals' which has been working in young people's theatre for the last 5 years.
Dr Natasha Mehta, Principal EuroSchool Airoli, said: "At EuroSchools, we always believe in going beyond the school boundaries and reaching out to the community in various ways. The purpose of the three-day theatre festival is to provide children with an experience that will help them develop a love and appreciation for theatre and the fine arts. The kids will be exposed to a rich plethora of both Indian and international drama and the event will provide a fulfilled experience that enables children to make creative connections. It will also provide families with healthy and educational entertainment."
Speaking at the Inaugural function, Chief Guest, actor Kunal Kapoor, said: "I readily accepted the invitation from EuroSchools when I heard about this event. It is an honour to be able to be part of a platform that encourages and promotes performing arts for kids. Performing arts have also proven to be a boon in helping children overcome anxiety and gain confidence. There is also evidence to suggest that getting involved in music, dance or drama can improve a child's intelligence levels because they learn so many new skills."
