The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have decided to work on center to develop advanced technologies regarding cyber security and robotics for the defense forces. This center is named as Jagadish Chandra Bose Centre for Advanced Technology and is a collaborative venture with Javadpur University.
The foundation stone on the center was laid today in the university's campus. According to the officials, the purpose of the center is to conduct collaborative advanced research, starting with secure systems and cognitive technologies, directed energy, unmanned and robotics technologies and then venturing towards other futuristic technologies. DRDO's head official S Christopher told the media that they have been researching about new weapons that make use of microwaves and millimeter waves. The organization has been collaborating with Institutes of Kolkata and Javadpur University as well. Opening a center here at Javadpur University will help their personnel in easy communication and will be advantageous as they will design new technologies faster. It is to be noted that universities have certain limitations. They receive grants from foreign universities in the form of subsidized equipment and machinery for advanced research in various fields. If it comes into notice that a university used those grants or equipment for defense research, then they might have to deal with problems. This step will help to have a research lab which will entirely work on defense research," a DRDO official said.
