Nearly 3.5 lakh contractual teachers in Bihar threaten to go on strike from Feb 1, 2018 if government fails to decide on equal pay for equal work for them. Contractual teachers in Bihar have given ultimatum to the state government to decide on equal pay for equal work by January 1, 2018 or they will go on strike from February 1, 2018.
"We will lock the primary, middle and high schools across the state and we will also boycott Class 10 and Class 12 exams in February," a leader of the contractual school teachers said here.
Teachers said that they have been forced to take this decision against the state government and are likely to move to the Supreme Court against the decision of the Patna High Court.
In the petition, the contractual teachers said that there is discrimination between regular and contractual teachers when it comes to equal pay for equal work.
The High Court's order was a big relief to the contractual teaches in Bihar.
Earlier, several protests have also been staged by the contractual teachers in Bihar in which they also demanded equal pay for equal work. Their main demand is to have on par salaries with the government school teachers.
