In a first-of-its-kind agreement between an American College and an Indian institution, 131-year-old Concordia College- New York (CCNY), through its direct Indian registered representative Concordia NY Admission Services LLP, has partnered with The National Management School (NMS), Chennai, to allow CCNY students to do the first two years of their four year undergraduate degree at NMS in Chennai. The agreement was signed by Dr. Viji George, President, Concordia College - NY, and Dr. Sankaran Raghunathan, Dean, The National Management School, Chennai, recently in the city.
Under this agreement, CCNY will recruit students for their Bachelor's degree program from India and abroad, and offer those students (from the academic year 2012-2013) the option of studying the first two years in India at NMS, and earning the Associate of Arts Degree (AA Degree). Communications, Humanities, Social/Behavioral Sciences, Science/Wellness Courses and Mathematics will be covered under the AA Degree. These students will then seamlessly transfer to CCNY, and continue the balance of their undergraduate program to earn their art/science degree (conferred as Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science(BS)), from Concordia College at New York. The UG degree will help students easily enter into the global employment market with the right qualification and skills of internationally acceptable standards.
Studying the first two years at NMS, Chennai, will reduce the cost of the American undergraduate degree by about 40%, and it will give students the opportunity to study an American curriculum in an Indian environment. This program of study is open to both Indian and foreign nationals who wish to join and get their undergraduate degree from Concordia College. This program accepts admissions from September 2012 intake onwards. The first two years of the program will cost around INR 10 lakhs. A minimum qualification of 12th grade with pass percentage 60% is the eligibility criteria to pursue the program.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Viji George said "We are glad to find and partner with an institution such as The National Management School that is committed to provide the American quality education that meets accreditation norms. Our students can now spend two years in India not only studying in a quality school but also experience India and perhaps also do an internship before returning to our College."
Dr. Raghunathan said that "while NMS has been providing short term programs for students of US Universities in India as part of the Study Abroad programs, this agreement with Concordia elevates our offering to American Universities. Now, students from the US can spend time in India and earn up to 60 credits (1 credit = 16 hours of classroom contact) that will be applied towards their Bachelors Degree in a quality institution such as the Concordia College."
The other recent collaborations of CCNY are with S.I.E.T College, Hindustan College of Arts and Science.
