Due to poor grades in IIT-R (CGPA less than 5) 18 reserved category students have earlier lost their seats but in a recent meeting the institute decided to admit them back in the first year and to give the another chance to prove their abilities.
IIT-Roorkee dean (academics) Pramod Agarwal said "All the students who were earlier expelled owing to low Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) have been re-admitted in the first year again. We decided to give them a chance to prove their mettle."
Why Second Chance?
PrashantGarg, IIT-Roorkee's registrar, said, "Considering that the students were from the weaker sections of society and keeping in mind their mercy appeal, we decided to give them a second chance despite the fact that they had signed the undertaking (assuring a CGPA of 5 and above) at the time of admission. The senate deliberated on the future of the 18 expelled students in today's meeting and decided to readmit all of them in the first year."
He also added "along with the decision to take back the expelled students, the senate has also agreed to look at changes in the CGPA system so that the same problem does not re-occur."
