CBSE may reintroduce Class 10th Board Exams from
2018. The exams were made optional in 2010. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar
will have a meeting with the minister of education of states and central
ministers to discuss the matter.
Ruchika Chhabra, a counselor in one of the top schools says “Mass
failure will be reduced in class 9th”. “This will help children to
take studies more seriously and thus bring a drastic change in a positive way.”
Some of the reasons to reintroduce the class 10th
Board Exams include: The number of drop outs has reduced a lot and scrapping
away the exams affected the academic standards.
Sources in the education minister say that the HRD Minister
will also announce ‘no-detention’ policy, wherein the students will be promoted
to class 5th. The states can devise an alternative till class 8th.
If a student fails, the opportunity of a re-test should be given to them.
