joint research programmes, and mobility of students, researchers and educators.
The
BRICS Network University will not only provide a common space for education,
mobility but will also serve BRICS economies with personnel who are highly
educated in energy, economy, informatics, ecology and other areas.
About BRICS
BRICS is
actually an acronym for a collaboration of Brazil, Russia, India, China and
South Africa, all of which are touted as major emerging economies
internationally. The group initially started off as BRIC and South Africa
joined the group in 2010. All five of these countries are members of G-20 and
bear similarities in the sense that all these economies are progressing at a fast
rate and all these exercise a great influence on global as well as regional
issues. Annual summits are being conducted for BRICS nations to meet since
2009. The chair of the BRICS group is currently held by Russia, which also
hosted the seventh summit of BRICS in July 2015.
The countries
comprising BRICS currently represent 42% of the world's population, i.e. over 3
billion people. All these countries score in top 25 countries of the world in
terms of population and 4 of them are actually in top 10. They have a combined
nominal GDP of US$ 16.039 trillion which amounts to almost 20% of the gross
world product. Their combined foreign reserves are estimated to be around US$4
trillion. The cornerstone of bilateral relations among these countries is the
principle of equality, non-interference and mutual benefit for all.
