Devi AhilyaVishwavidyalaya, Indore has forethought of the introduction of a biometric attendance system for keeping a check on the absenteeism and making improvements in attendance of faculty of the university.
Devi AhilyaVishwavidyalaya is a State University, whose jurisdiction was initially restricted to Indore city. It is thus catering to the educational needs of the most industrially developed districts of Madhya Pradesh, Indore on one hand and to the seven tribes and rural backward districts of the State on the other. It offers courses in various disciplines such as Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, and Chemistry. University started B.Ed. in 1968 and MBA in 1969, later life Sciences, Economics, Biochemistry, and Journalism were started. The announcement of the biometric system was made by Narendra Thakkar on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.
The main objective of the introduction of a biometric system is to regulate the productivity level of the staff members of the university. Another advantage of this system is that the whole process of biometric attendance will simplify and will also show transparency in the matters of attendance and duty. But, this decision also faced opposition from the teachers or the staff members, who have a 9 to 5 job, are sometimes required to maintain flexible hours for queries and extra classes conducted for the students require them to stay back for the longer duration. Afterwards, this system will be introduced in various other departments of the university after evaluation of responses.
