Students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) protested with a
march and by raising slogans against the state government, regarding
unfulfilled demands as promised by the Samajwadi party, on Friday to the
District Collectorate. The protest was against the state government not
fulfilling the promise of offering 18 per cent reservation in proportion to the
population, made in the 2012 poll manifesto. The march on Friday by the
students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was to consider them as the most
backward.
The protesters marched up to the District Collectorate with
slogans and displayed placards which showed messages about considering their
demand and not to play vote bank politics. Also objections were raised against
the recommendations of adding 17 OBC castes into the Scheduled Caste category
by the UP government.
The students’ Union of AMU has threatened the state government
about launching an agitation, if the government fails to take an early decision
as per the promises made during the election, and has decided to send a
memorandum to the Chief Minister on Saturday. It criticized the SP government
for only doing lip service to the demands of the Muslims as per Sachar
Committee, and failing completely to fulfill them. The demands remained part of
the election manifesto during the election. Faizul Hasan, President of the AMU
Students' Union, stated that while the government included 17 fresh OBC castes
in the SC quota list, it had not fulfilled the promises made to the Muslims.
The memorandum also lists that for Muslims, state police job
quota should be 15 per cent. Required amendments to be made incuded, Dalit
Muslims coming under the SC category, free coaching for higher education and
more Urdu schools being opened and Government aiding Muslims sent to jail under fake charges.
