NCDRC, an apex consumer commission, has issued a directive and asked a college in Karnataka to refund 1.12 lakh to its 11 students. These students were awarded different degree after the completion of the program than they had enrolled for.
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has asked St Aloysius Institute of Computer Science, Mangalore to refund the amount within four weeks along with the litigation cost to the students. The students were awarded a degree in M.Sc. Software Technology instead of MS.
The college had issued an advertisement in which it had invited applications from the students for admission into M.S. (Software Technology) course. The college is affiliated to Mangalore University and is an autonomous institute.
Both MS and M.Sc. Stand for master in science but the former is a professionally recognized degree.
The students had enrolled for the MS course but upon completion, they were awarded M.Sc. (Software Technology). The college in its defense said that it had given admission to the students but was already in the process of changing and permission from the same was taken by the Mangalore University.
