Like last year, this year too IIT-B is chosen by
top 67 students of IIT-JEE examination. These rankers have chosen the Powai
campus to pursue their B.Tech.
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) which
is responsible for allocating seats to the candidates who have passed the
IIT-JEE examination. The committee announced the first round of seat allocation
for the 22 IITs and also for 80 other central government-funded technical
institutes. According to the statistics by JoSAA, IIT-Bombay and IIT-Delhi, are
the top choices of students with higher ranks, while courses in IIT-Kharagpur
and IIT-Madras have received more applications as compared to the last year. As
many as, 33,500 students have registered for admissions this year.
JoSAA has mentioned the top 23 rank holders, all
have been placed in IIT-B and the lowest-ranked candidate at the institute
stood 4,410. At IIT-Delhi, the highest ranked candidate had 24th in the JEE-Advanced
list, while the lowest ranker stood 4,723. This is followed by IIT-Madras,
where the highest and lowest ranks were 62 and 7,523 respectively. The four new
IITs introduced into this academic year are, Bhilai, Goa, Jammu and Dharwad,
along with other new IITs as,IIT-Palakkad and IIT-Tirupati. They have rank
holders which ranges from 2,577 to 7,176.
"Each and every seat available under the 22 IITs
have been allotted to students, not a single seat remains vacant at this point.
Over the next five days, if students withdraw admissions, then we will have
more seats to be filled in the second round. This year, 33,581 candidates had
registered for 9,660 seats in 22 IITs alone and had filled in 41.68 lakh
choices online in their option forms. Except for a handful of seats in some of
the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) that are left vacant, all other
seats have been allotted in the first round itself," said Dr. KV Krishna,
organizing chairman, JEE (advanced) 2016, from IIT-Guwahati.
In the next five days, that is, between July 1 and
July 5, all the students whose names are displayed in the first round of
allotment list can confirm their admissions by paying the seat acceptance fee
and submitting requisite documents at the allotted reporting centers as soon as
possible to secure a seat.
