Competition is a part of education. By the increase in population, Indian students faced a lot of competition is all sectors of education, be it school admission or college admission or any professional course. In spite of getting good marks, students fail to get admission in their dream colleges or universities. But recent news leaked out the decision of the increase in seats for undergraduate courses in degree colleges under the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University.
The university, renowned for its academic excellence, has been a target for most of the students to study after their school. Before, there were known to have fewer seats and most of the students were forced to leave their dream. Later, the university finally decided to increase the seat numbers for the undergraduate courses.
The university authorities directed the other affiliated colleges for undergraduate degree to take the admissions of the students. First, the CSJMU was given orders by the government authorities to provide facilities for admission to the students by increasing the number of seats. The admission will be for those eligible students who were refused admission earlier. Sources say that the university had a 33 % increase in their seats after the government order.
Syed Waqar Husain, the registrar says, “We have received an order and after that seats have been increased over 33% which means if there were 60 seats, it increased to 80”. He also says that the orders and the decision will be profitable for those rejected candidates who were asked to return due to limited seats. They also made few norms that only those students who had already submitted an application for admission in other affiliated colleges will get a first chance, later, if seats left, fresh candidates can apply for.
Whereas, on the other hand, colleges like PPN Degree college, refused the order of increasing the seats and strictly said their admission had already been over by July,13 and don’t want fresh admitted students any more. A senior faculty, Dr B D Pandey said that increasing seating for undergraduate courses would go against the rules of the colleges and they do not have any more resources to aid them.
But other than this college, most of degree colleges like DG Girls College, VSSD College, BND College, and DAV College agreed the orders and seats got increased. So, the students did not face any problems any more. But some colleges like BND Degree College, although agreed the decision, but their seating increasing was not 33% but only 10%. The principal of the college says that the college classrooms do not have the appropriate infrastructure to accommodate all the new students.
The colleges strictly mention that although they agreed to the orders but admission will only be given to those students who had applied earlier for admission but were refused due to lack of seats. Most of the colleges say that it is impossible to bear all new students coming for admission. Many are hopeful that the knot can be untangled with the aforesaid unprecedented decision.
