It has been a topic of discussion and debate for long time whether reservation is required or not in the Indian Education system. Indian social and economical condition is changing rapidly and as a result of it, the validity of reservation system in the filed of education has gone through a lot of changes.
Why reservation was started in Indian Education system:
As per the Indian Constitution every Indian should get equal benefits and opportunities. However, in various rural areas, the opportunity of getting education was not at all satisfactory. Therefore, the unprivileged classes of the society were given some extra conveniences to go at par with the general or privileged class. Then reservation was started for the girls and the handicapped. So, this system was started with a good objective but it did not remain the same. It was misused. People started creating false certificates for getting the benefits of this quota system.
All people are not getting same opportunity:
Now, with this reservation system a part of the society started getting extra facilities but the other part was deprived. It becomes easy for a student who is getting the benefits of quota system to get a chance in a reputed college. A general student who may have got more marks will not get the opportunity. So, in other words he will be deprived of his rights. Now reservation is valid when you are making a student of backward class people capable but after making him or her capable, he or she should not be given extra opportunities. Then, the value of ability or capability will be less important than that of the caste certificates.
What kind of facilities the students get from reservation:
These students get chances in the better education instructions because the cut off marks for these students of reserved category is less than the general students. Besides, these students get various kinds of financial help from Governments and from the other private organizations. When the time of getting a job comes, they get age relaxation and some other benefits in the examination. Therefore, they are given facilities in every part of their educational life.
Adverse side of reservation system:
There are various adverse sides of reservation system. First of all a lot of students of general category don’t get the same opportunity. Sometimes, it may cause the loss of a fabulous talent. On the other hand, some of the students who get all sorts of facilities because of this reservation don’t become able to compete with the global standard. A student can do higher studies because of quota system whereas another student don’t get that opportunity for the same reason. Therefore, by this reservation system one part of the society becomes well educated whereas the other part becomes victimized.
How it should be implemented:
In various metropolitans and cities the difference between a privileged and an unprivileged class in the society has become lesser as per the social and economical life is concern. So, there should not be any other facility given to the students of reserved category especially in the field of education. However, in the rural areas the reserved category student should be given proper opportunity of getting education rather than giving them the facility to get the seats in a good college or school even after getting lesser marks.
The proper implementation of the reservation system will give all the students an equal chance to compete in the society. They will get equal education which is good for the overall development of the country.
