Many more additional types of equipment may also be used and some adapted settings may be set up for ensuring that the child feels comfortable with the system of education. The main aim of the special needs institution is to raise the level of success in the daily lives of all the children.
Recently special needs education has been gaining some importance in India. Just for the past few years it is trying to gain some momentum in India. But, does not is deserve more importance than is given to it? Has any steps been taken by India till now for ensuring that the children who deserves special education are taught in the best way that is possible to make them educated so that they can easily venture into the world of reality?
A young teacher named Talia D'Souza was asked about her views about special education. After completing her bachelor degree on special education, she has recently joined this field. Well, along with teaching the students, she is also preparing for her Master's degree on special education.
Several questions were asked to Talia. Well, when she was asked about why she had got into this field, she said that her youngest sister suffers from a genetic disease known as Down syndrome. Thus, since her childhood days she has been taking care of her sister, she used to do everything for her sister.
As a result, with years of doing these things for her sisters, she was used to them and then all of it came naturally to her. She has also told that she never thought of being a teacher of special education, but this is something for which she became passionate after she completed her graduation.
Talia was also asked that whether she has faced any difficulties in teaching a special child in comparison to teaching a regular child. To this she answered that before teaching a child something, all the teachers break down the task into small processes.
When the task is broken down into small process, then it becomes easier for the teachers to understand that where the exact problem of the child is. Also this helps in identifying the strength of the child also. She has also added that nowadays traditional methods of teaching are not used anymore.
This is because every child has got different level of intelligence and therefore new modern techniques must be used to teach them. Every child is given reinforcement for the minimum achievements they make and this helps greatly in motivating them to learn more. At last, she mentioned that it would be better if the regular child were also taught in this procedure.
