In Ram's report card who was the topper, the teacher always remarked "can improve". On asking why "he" needs improvement, the teacher said that, considering the standard of the class Ram may be the best but his answers have flaws too and if there are flaws there is a need for improvement.
Ever since independence and the framing of the Constitution, many platitudes existed as to what is "right to life" under Article 21. Finally, in Keshavananda Bharti judiciary declared it as a right to a Dignified Human Life, not animal existence. Humans are distinct from animals because of education. By way of amending the Constitution, the legislature has incorporated Article 21A, an extension of its preceding Article conferring right to free and compulsory education. And in pursuance of this Article in 2009 'The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act or Right to Education Act (RTE)'.
In India education is provided by public as well as private sector controlled and funded in three levels Central, State and local. The Indian education system we follow the Pre-school to Postgraduate structure. This system has been there in vogue and is an outcome of adaption from various foreign as well as customary practices. In spite of the considerable amount of contribution that the system has made towards "educating the lots" and catering to the needs of the Indians, yet there remain acute problems in the system.
Empty Wallet-
India the demand for education exceedingly outreaches the supply and the funds available are only just enough to secure the basic educational needs of the students. This crisis of fund works as a hindrance in adopting modern and developed infrastructure which leads to a stagnation as it becomes impossible to go beyond "the Traditional Curriculum".
Gen-gap-
This is tragic because even in the 21st century the educators in India are barely knowledgeable about the people they deal with. Most Indians now-a-days are Americanized as a side-effect of rampant globalization and inherent trait to follow the West. But the teachers dealing with them have not changed their outlook.
Teacher "“to-be-taught-
This is by far the most striking problem in Indian Education system. Lack of incentives, opportunities in the field of academics drives away the educated from this challenging field. In most of the occasions they prefer other sectors providing services or business drunk to the idea of gaining material considerations. Other than these basics there is Lack of involvement of authorities in control of educational matters, and students opting for higher education are stranded at even a worse footing.
The Road that is less Travelled-
Conferring a Right on someone simultaneously bestows a duty on another. To ensure the citizen's right to education the duty on the authorities become strict. When the status quo has glaring defects, the words said by Ram's teacher makes complete sense that improvement is needed, because "improving" is the closest to perfection that we can get to.
