On the event of teachers there was a heated discussion on NDTV regarding the state of affairs about the higher education in India. There were experts talking on the issue. The word of the day was “Educating India”. There was an elaborate discussion on the challenges that the country was facing regarding the higher education of students in the country.
There was a question regarding the amount of expenditure that the country had towards the progress of education in India. Shashi Tharoor was quick to comment that at the current moment the country was spending 4.8% of the GDP in education progress. This was more than what China was spending. Even though China has a long term plan they were not spending more. He also said that it was not enough. At least 6% needs to be dedicated towards improving education.
If the education of the country is not improved then the students of the country will be forced to go and study abroad. It said that the current education system had all the resources that were required to enhance the level of higher education in India. The education system has developed in the last two decades. The people need to understand that opportunities will grow in India.
Some of the major problems in the education system include the existence of several boards like the CBSE board and the ICSE board. Education is not unified at the secondary and higher secondary level. A lot needs to be done in order to make the education system perfect. There should be only one control and education has to be centralized in the earlier levels.
The board examinations of the different boards are not same. The marking system and the syllabus are different. This causes a serious problem for students who want to pursue higher education. The ministry of education needs to take serious steps regarding the improvement of education in India. The government must have the capacity to provide education to the ever growing population. Not just education, the government needs to create more job opportunities as well.
The facilities that the education system has must be put to good use. The various institutions and the boards must look to provide logical thinking power to the students. There is no point in teaching the same old things over and over again. The board examination syllabus needs to be revised and the pressure needs to be taken of the students. At the moment the students are pressurized with exams.
Today the education system no longer looks forward to serving the people of the country. Education has become a business. All the people want to open up schools and colleges but no one thinks of opening up an IT company that will provide jobs to the huge population of the country. The mindset of the people needs to be changed in order to let the education of the country progress in the correct direction.
