A Brief Introduction

A public and autonomous University, the Singapore Management University is a university which specialises in management and business related studies. The University is famous for following American style of education, modelled by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
It is one of the youngest Universities to have received accreditation from one of the oldest accreditation bodies’, the AACSB International. It has been accredited for both its undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
The QS has ranked it #60th from Asian universities. Financial Times ranked it #10 in Asia and #36 worldwide in 2015, whereas SMU (as an entire university) was ranked #1 in Singapore and #8 out of all business schools in the world by Webometrics Ranking Web of World Business Schools.

Campus

Spread across an area of 4.5 hectare, the University is located in the central part of the city. The campus cost a whooping $426 million. It supports both its graduate and undergraduate students.
The making of the campus, which consists of museums, art galleries, cafes, educational institutes, theatres, shopping complexes etc, involved professional, community, civic and public groups whose primary aim was to create a campus which could keep up with the new millennium ways but at the same time retain historic values.

STUDENT FACILITIES

Accomodation
The SMU Hostel, also known as SMU Residences is located on Prinsep Street. This hostel was formed by refurnishing and developing 3 /housing Development boards which were donated by the Government, The hostel opened its doors to its first residents n 2006, but officially opened in February 2007. It can accommodate around 250 students. In the hostel, priority is first given to international students, who otherwise have to look for private hostels around the island of Singapore.

Finances
International student in Singapore will spend around S$750 to S$2,000 a month on living expenses. This amount varies depending on your lifestyle and course of study.

Medical Insurance		As a SMU student, you are automatically entitled to SMU Medical Insurance Coverage scheme that covers your basic medical treatment and consultation.

Scholarships
Scholarships available at SMU are generally given on the basis of merit, and some even extend up to full duration (4 years) of the student’s undergraduate programme, although it depends on the student’s academic performance. The awards are made possible through the generous donations of well-wishers of SMU.
