A Brief Introduction
The University of Malaya is a public research university located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is the oldest and most esteemed university in Malaysia. The university's name was abbreviated as Malaya during the pre-independence period.
The university was founded in 1949 as a public-funded tertiary institution. Today, it has more than 2,500 faculty members. In 2012, UM was granted autonomy status by the Ministry of Higher Education.
In 2015, the QS World University Rankings has ranked UM at the 146th place in the world. Also in the same year, the university is ranked 29th place in the QS Asian University Rankings, 3rd in Southeast Asia and is the highest ranked learning institution in Malaysia.

The University spread across 750-acres campus in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city.

Accommodation
There are 12 residential colleges on-campus which provide accommodation for more than 11,000 students with each residential college reserving 5% of its rooms to international students.
For on-campus accommodation, room shares are offered at RM 15.00 per day.
Undergraduate and exchange students are given priority for rooms in the residential colleges. Postgraduate student applications are considered only if there are vacant rooms.
The International House is an alternative option. Comprising 70 four-person units, it is a 10-minute drive away from the main campus.
