A Brief Introduction
A public research University, the University of Toronto was founded in 1959 by Mamdouh Shoukri. It is a state funded university that offers courses in English and French.
Now, the University is considered to be Canada’s third largest interdisciplinary, educational, research and teaching University.
The University was ranked between 9 and 15th in Canada and 226-250th by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, whereas the QS Rankings placed it between 421-430th in the world.
Canadian national rankings such as Maclean have ranked it 7th in the country in 2016, and The Higher Education Strategy Associates ranked York 8th in Canada in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Accommodation
The Centre for Student Community and Leadership Development (SCLD) is the body responsible for managing the 8 residence buildings situated in the Keele Campus.
These Residences are divided into two complexes on either side of campus: Complex 1 includes Winters Residence, Tatham Hall Residence, Vanier Residence, and Founders Residence.
Complex 2 includes Bethune Residence, Calumet Residence, Stong Residence, and Pond Residence (the newest residence, and sometimes referred to as Complex 3 grouped with the York Apartments).
A double room costs about £3,075 a year (CA$4,784).
In some residences meal plans are compulsory. These cost between £1,610 and £2,570 a year ($2,500 to $4,000).
Living off campus for a year will cost about £6,425 including rent, bills and food ($10,000).
Personal expenses off campus will be a little higher than if living on campus.

Scholarships
The University offers a limited number of scholarships which are based upon academic merit and accomplishments to both incoming and continuing international undergraduates.
Scholarships for continuing students are generally awarded through recommendation by tutors on your program.
Whilst York University will support students in looking for funding, state and institutional aid for international undergraduates is limited.
Finances
Full-time tuition and compulsory fees for international students on most undergraduate program 2012-13 was about £11,555 (CA$17,934).
International students must have UHIP (health insurance) which costs £595 ($920).
Books and supplies for an entire course may cost up to £1,000.
