A Brief Introduction
Established in 1386, this is the oldest University of Germany and the 5th oldest in Central Europe. It was the third university established in the Holy Roman Empire.
It became a co educational institute in the year 1899. Since long, it has consistently ranked as Europe’s top universities. It is also regarded as the strongest research universities in Europe. The University places special emphasis on maintaining the dialogue across traditional subject boundaries.
According to World University Rankings by Times Higher Education, the University ranks 37th in the world and 47th by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Campus
Situated in the Rhine Neckar Triangle, which is a European metropolitan area with a population of approximately 2.4 million, which also comprise the cities near Heidelberg. The University offers a network for a large number of non-university research institutions and companies in Heidelberg and the Rhine-Neckar region.
With a large number of courses available the University is an attractive choice for students all over the globe. Around one fifth of its students are and one third doctoral candidates are foreign students.
The University comprises of two two major campuses: one in Heidelberg's Old Town and another in the Neuenheimer Feld quarter on the outskirts of the city. with international universities and supports its students in the planning and implementation of stays abroad.
