BITS-Pilani has off-capmpus centres at Hyderabad and Goa, HRD
Ministry has sought legal opinion from the Rajasthan Government regarding validating
degrees, certificates and diplomas awarded by the off-campus centres of
BITS-Pilani.
Last year UGC had sent a notice to BITS-Pilani asking them
to shut down their off-campus centres as they were established without
permission and they violated the regulations of deemed university.
Earlier the state government had written to the central government
for guidance in this matter. Now the HRD Ministry has written to Law Ministry
for their opinion.
The attestation of the degrees has been put on hold by the
Rajasthan Government.
The University said that “the off campus centres were
established before the university was given a deemed university regulations
came into effect. UGC has no legal authority to issue such kind of notice”.
