The hospitality industry in emerging economies has come a long way since the time it catered to a relatively small number of tourists seeking to imbibe the exotic. Today it caters to a significant number of business travelers, and is host to delegates of international conferences. To this, one can also include the large influx of visitors for high-profile international sporting events, exhibitions and festivals, and more recently medical reasons.
In this backdrop, the exclusive partnership between the Cornell School of Hotel Administration and the Center for Executive Education at Sathguru Management Consultants has seen the successful conclusion of yet another Hospitality Management Program. The program entitled Managing Strategic Growth & Leadership in Emerging Markets was held from 13 to 17 June, 2012 at Hyderabad.
Employing multimedia presentations, case studies and classroom discussions, the HMP programme exposed participants to strategies for gaining the upper hand by exploiting specific competitive edges and merging them with innovative value chain activities; offered innovative, profitable and practical approaches to address marketing challenges; provided strategies for improving profit and customer loyalty that would translate to positive bottom lines.
This year's executive program offered participants the opportunity to identify expanding opportunities for the hospitality industry in developing nations, changing trends and policies in the industry and formulate innovative strategies to augment growth in their own firms. It also offered a unique opportunity to the thirty participants from premier properties and hospitality ventures in India and abroad, who attended the program from the Oberoi, Serena, InterContinental Hotels, Jebel Ali International Hotels and more to gain necessary leverage from the highly interactive sessions in the program and implement the knowledge and skill to bring more value to their respective organizations.
"The five day long program helped me enhance my knowledge on formulating contemporary strategies for revenue management and sales," said Mr. Shiraj Shikhar, Director of Sales and Marketing at The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata. Through intensive sessions, case studies, presentations and group discussions this program also helped in "understanding strategic positioning in emerging markets, learning new global principles of management, broadening understanding & application of research & analytical methods" - says an enthusiastic Mr. Abhishek Sahai, Rooms Division Manager, The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, Chennai.
