Punjab University on Tuesday witnessed the atmosphere of fee hike as students came forward for protesting against the fee hike and in doing so, they clashed with the law enforcement forces.
In order to disperse the mass of students who had gathered around the Vice-Chancellor's office, police was forced to use baton charge, water cannon and tear gas and in the process several students were injured.
Students in return threw stones on the police and broke window panes and damaged other property of the university.Later, when police began to chase few students they took the refuge in the Gurudwara on the campus premises. Police officials were later found negotiating with them to come out.
Not only the university property but teaching was also affected by the chaos in several departments of sector 14 as students called for the protest shutdown.
Students for society and other student organizations were primarily against the fee hike and were responsible for causing chaos on the campus.
